| A week from tomorrow, I'll be on a plane back home...
I've got a busy week ahead- curry on sunday, a pseudo 6monthaversary celebration with Tom on monday, the Ball on tueday (all dressed up, yay), Punch and Ziggys on Wednesday, Big D on thursday, and Friday is my last night on York campus. Saturday I'm going home with Tom and sleeping in Sudbury for the night, provided I'll be able to find trains to Gatwick on Sunday morning.
Then home, Alpena, and back home again.
| Hi everyone,
Haven't updated in a while or returned many emails because Em has been visiting for the last week or so. It was fun, showing her around the cute little city of York and hanging out with the british kids and the ducks. We even went up to Edinburgh for the day, which was so cool. It has a big castle on top of a hill in the middle of the city, and all sorts of old buildings and cemetaries and stuff. Plus the scottish accents were great, and we saw people in kilts. I wish we would have had more time to explore. Someday I want to go back and visit the beautiful scenery and see more castles.
I'll be home July 3rd, around 5 or 6. Then I'm leaving for a few days on the 4th, on the annual trip up north.
I can't wait to see ann arbor again, but its going to be so hard to leave here.
| A highlight of Claire's visit, for both of us I think, was another Lollop last Saturday. But unlike the last one, there was no trampling through mud and snow and other artic like conditions, it was actually a really beautiful day. A whole bunch of went on an 8 mile hike along the English countryside, through woods and near the ocean till we reached the little village of Robin Hood's bay. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, because there were some really fantastic views of countryside and the coast. Claire was impressed too, and I'm really glad she got to see it. There is no scenery like that in Michigan.
After Claire left, things sort of calmed down and I went back to my usual routine. On Wednesday night, there was the final for the European Cup, Liverpool vs. AC Milan. Since I'm such a football rookie, I had to get all this explained to me, but basically its just a really big deal because this tournament includes all of Europe, so to have an English team playing is really exciting. I went to the local Liverpool pub with a few of my friends, one of whom is a really big Liverpool fan, to watch the game. We got there too late, and had to stand behind a million red jerseys to see the TV screen. AC Milan were up 3-0 at the end of the first half, basically a bloodbath, so a few of us went across the street to a less crowded pub and drank cocktails while the others stayed. But then, Liverpool scored three times in six minutes, kept them off during overtime, and won on penalties! (I heard all this via text messaging as we sat in the deserted Wetherspoons.) So we went back to the Liverpool pub, where the celebration was just amazing. All these enormous guys hugging each other, some of them crying, and singing and everything. People were just so excited and so emotional, it was absolutely infectious. It feels cheesy to say this, but I was really happy to be in England to see that kind of celebration.
In other news, we have the University edition of Sims 2 which me and two others have been sharing on one computer. We're really quite dorky, we actually have a rotating system where we each get to play for an hour. It reminds me of living at home and having to share the computer with Claire.
One month left, and I'm going to make it count...
| Happy Birthday to me! Ahem, well, yesterday now. Thank you to everyone who sent me emails, cards, text messages, everything. I appreciated all of it so much. I promise I'll be writing emails back to everyone in the next day or two. I've been sort of busy juggling clairey, birthday stuff, and an essay due next monday that has only seen the preliminary stages of work.
It's been great having Claire visiting. We've been running around york and acting like tourists most days. We went shopping on wednesday and I bought a really pretty skirt, and three pretty shirts. Poor girl is still jet lagged, though.
My birthday over here was really quite wonderful. I got proper drunk on wednesday night with the girls, and of course stumbled around A-Block doing silly things like throwing Nat's ID out the window. I was at ziggy's at midnight when my birthday started, and Dan decided I needed one last underage drink before I turned 21, so I downed some girly drink as we counted down to midnight.
Thursday evening we went out to dinner at this place called the Orgasmic cafe, which was really good. The girls here set it up and I got a really good showing, 21 people in total. I drank yummy cocktails and ate cake and was just generally elated with life and the people around me, especially my Tom.
Again, thank you to everyone who thought of me while I'm so far away. I miss you guys.
